Pay for clients with email credits

If you are paying for clients on pay per campaign billing, you can cover the cost of their account usage with email credits instead of having each of their transactions charged to your credit card.

Client requirements

Before you can start paying for a client with email credits, there are two things you need to have in place:

  • The client must be on pay per campaign billing. If the client is currently on monthly billing, see how to switch from monthly to pay per campaign billing.
  • You must be paying for the client. If the client is currently paying:
    1. Click Clients in the top navigation, then click the relevant client.
    2. Click Settings near the top right, then Client details.
    3. Click Switch to paying on their behalf.

Email credit payment options

There are two ways you can set up payment via email credits to cover a client's account usage.

Let clients draw from your pool of credits

When you buy email credits they instantly become available to cover the costs of any client you are paying for, who is set to pay per campaign.

When credits are used, the client's name and the amount of credits spent are recorded in the Billing section of your account.

Recent billing transactions in an account, including the email credits spent

With this option applied, your client — if you have given them access to send their own campaigns — will not see a payment screen prior to sending. They won't see any billing information in their account, and will be able to send for as long as you have enough email credits to cover the cost.

If you have not given the client access to send their own campaigns, you'll be given the option to pay with email credits or your credit card.

Allocate credits to clients

You can choose to allocate credits to some clients and not others. The default payment-by-credits method is to have clients to draw from your pool of credits. That will only change if you follow these instructions:

  1. Click Clients in the top navigation, then select the relevant client.
  2. Click Settings near the top right, select Client details, then click Allocate them credits:

  3. In the Allocate field, type the number of credits you want to give the client, then click Allocate Credits. The amount of credits allocated will display in the right sidebar to indicate that the transfer is complete.
Allocating email credits to a client

With this option applied, your client – if you have given them access to send their own campaigns – will have a Billing section added to their account so they can see how many email credits they have left from the amount allocated.

Choose what happens when credits run out

After you have allocated credits for the first time, a new section is displayed on the page titled "When their credits run out", as shown here:

The allocate credits page, which shows credit balance, and gives a choice as to what to do when email credits run out

The default setting is Don't allow them to send. If a client runs out of credits on this setting, they will see a system message in their account to say the campaign cannot be sent immediately.

Or, you can choose Allow [client name] to continue sending. This option ensures the client is never held up from sending a campaign, or running a design and spam test, if you have given them permission to do that.

Deduct credits from a client

Another section of the "Allocate credits" page, pictured above, changes after credits are allocated. Under "Transfer credits" you will see that Allocate can now be switched to Deduct. Use this to remove credits from a client and add them back to your account balance.

Monitor email credit usage

Keep track of email credits spent and purchased by viewing recent transactions. To do so, click your profile image in the top right, then select Billing.

Your billing history is updated every time:

  • a client sends a campaign that you are paying for
  • you purchase email credits
  • you allocate credits to a client

Your client can also monitor their own email credit usage if you have given them access to send their own campaigns and allocated a set amount of email credits to them.
